Keeping them Cool and Safe.
Dogs left in cars for a minute or two can be fatal to your pet in the hot desert sunshine - even if you're parked in the shade. In many desert cities, leaving your dog alone in the car at any time is illegal because of this high heat risk.
Also, bring booties for your dog's paws because the pavement is unbearably hot when the sun is out, up to 130 degrees, and will severely burn your dog's paws if the paws of the dog touch the pavement - even in and out of the car. Do not walk your dog or let them on pavement or cement during the peak sun hours and even afterward until the pavement is sufficiently cool to your touch.
